Heavy Freight

UK Carriers

We use DPD, DHL, FedEx, UPS and Parcelforce for our Trackable Courier / Express Deliveries.
We use a range of Freight Pallettised Services for our heavy parcels - these deliveries are trackable, but the details are not automatically available to you - Our despatch team will work with you to ensure your convenient delivery.

Couriers will require a signature for your delivery unless you enter alternative instructions in the appropriate box on the shipping page during checkout.

The DPD service includes getting in touch with you to manage your delivery.

Any arrangement which bypasses the need for a signature means that Jimmy Green Marine is not responsible for the parcel once it has been delivered.

For your convenience and security, you can enter a separate delivery address, e.g. at work.
If you need clarification on any aspect of our delivery system, please feel free to contact us - we are here to help.

Collect in Store

Select your items into your basket, proceed to Checkout, and add a UK address and postcode to your online account addresses - you can enter the Jimmy Green address and postcode if required, then select Collect in Store from the shipping options.

It would be very helpful to give us a collection required date. You can enter it in the message box or send a separate e-mail to sales@jimmygreen.co.uk to explain in more detail.

However, please keep in mind that if you have ordered any Splicing, Rigging or Sewing, this will be subject to the lead time explained above.

Our website also generates a Ready for Collection email.

If you have ordered anything we cannot supply in the time frame you have given us, we will let you know as soon as possible, either by e-mail or telephone.

Restricted Goods

We use this overall title for everything the couriers either surcharge or won't accept.

Restricted Goods include anything over 1 metre in length or classed as hazardous by the couriers.

Restricted Goods covers a wide range of items that Royal Mail and Parcelforce have completely banned.

We can't just 'pop' them in the post - there are heavy penalties for contravening their terms.

Pyrotechnics

Flares are classed as extremely hazardous and treated separately.
Flares can only be delivered by fully authorised and licensed carriers in special packaging to UK Mainland addresses.
Seago Flares are delivered directly to you by Seago.
Pains Wessex flares delivery direct to you by Lalizas UK is currently suspended due to their inability to arrange a licensed carrier.
You must be 18 years or over to purchase flares or hazardous goods.

Restricted Goods cover a wide range of items that the couriers either refuse to carry or choose to surcharge for the privilege:

This list is not exhaustive, but the shipping option at checkout filters out the options to Restricted, Collect in Store or Quote Required if you add anything classed as restricted into your basket.

Priority Orders

There is a Priority Shipping option at checkout for UK mainland delivery postcodes.
The extra charge means your order is promoted to the top of the queue.
This is particularly significant for splicing and rigging orders.

Selecting priority shipping does not guarantee same-day despatch. In addition, the time required to prepare your order and our courier collection times need to be factored in.

If the day and timing of your delivery are critical, please speak to the customer service team, who will be able to advise on the options and charges for timed courier services, e.g. by 10am or by 12 noon.

While this still doesn’t mean that next-day delivery is guaranteed, it does maximise the chances of a successful conclusion.

Please note that upgraded delivery services to those geographical areas in the UK that the couriers describe as '2 Day', e.g. parts of Scotland, are unavailable. Therefore, for these areas, we can only prioritise despatch by the optimum courier.

Custom Splicing and Rigging Orders

Please allow 2 - 4 working days for the Rigging Team to complete your custom splicing or rigging order.

We always strive to complete custom orders as quickly as possible, but our Rigging Team is normally in high demand.

We send out a large number of custom orders every day:
This list is not exhaustive but includes rope with splices, whippings, wire rigging with swaged terminals, webbing jackstays with sewn loops, sewn canvas shapes, rope ladders and many other bespoke items
e.g. handy billy purchase systems, Dyneema loops, low friction rings with Dyneema loops, webbing soft shackles, and webbing sail ties.

Please consider upgrading to the priority service if you have a required delivery date.
Please feel free to reply to your order acknowledgement email or ring 01297 20744 and speak to a member of the Jimmy Green Team.

If you decide to pay for a Priority or Express Service, we will do our utmost to deliver within your given time frame.

Islands and Scottish Highlands

We are conscious that the couriers seem to surcharge much of Scotland, leaving our customers feeling aggrieved.
We have a big following north of the border and value your custom, so we work extremely hard to research the most economical and efficient shipping options.

There are different charges for

  1. Scottish Highlands and 2-Day Remote Area
N.B. Our carriers classify some Scottish Postcodes as a 2-Day Remote Area, even though they are not in the Scottish Highlands.
We do apologise, but unfortunately, it is beyond our control.
  2. Islands including, e.g. Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles and all Scottish Isles - the Channel Isles are covered separately; see below

Parcels up to 2kg can go by Royal Mail at the same rates as the remainder of the UK.
Parcels from 2kg up to 30kg can go by Parcelforce (or DHL to some islands) at reasonable rates, especially if you optimise the 30kg :-)

The costs rise substantially when parcels are heavier than 30kg, longer than 1 metre, or if the couriers classify the contents as hazardous.

Restricted Goods to Highlands and Islands

This is the Jimmy Green Team umbrella name for anything either over 1 metre in length or classed as hazardous by the couriers.
Royal Mail and Parcelforce have completely banned a wide range of items.
This list is not exhaustive, but the banned list includes, e.g. any liquids, oils, pastes, aerosols, gas canisters, paint, antifoul, fire extinguishers, knives, lifejackets, liferafts and, of course, pyrotechnics.
All the remaining couriers impose significant surcharges, which, although partly subsidised by JGM, are reflected in our shipping rates.

If you add restricted goods to your basket, when you log in to your account, you will encounter our Quote Required option at checkout.
This means we will research the most economical or the quickest option for you - it does not mean the shipping is free.
Please don't hesitate to contact us referring to your basket or complete your order with or without payment while you wait for us to send you a shipping quote.

Channel Islands

Prices exclude UK VAT for deliveries to the Channel Islands.
Parcels up to 2kg can go by Royal Mail at similar rates to the remainder of the UK.
Parcels from 2kg up to 30kg can go by Parcelforce at reasonable rates, especially if you optimise the 30kg :-)
We use DHL for shipments > 30kg up to 1000kg.
DHL Express is automatically available for up to 40kg for priority shipping.
The DHL Express courier option is treated as a priority shipping

We can take orders by email, telephone, and online.

Please remember that you'll need to register and sign in to the website for it to recognise the delivery destination.
Shipping is calculated by weight and delivery address.
UK VAT is deducted from our export prices.

If you need help completing your order, we are here to help by telephone or email, including information on a suitable specification for your application.
Please let us know if the website is not giving you the right shipping option, and we will solve the problem.
If you need help completing your purchase, we can help you out.

You will encounter our Quote Required option at checkout if you add goods to your basket that fall outside the automated shipping calculation parameters.
This means we will research the most economical or the quickest option for you - it does not mean the shipping is free.
Please feel free to contact us referring to your basket or complete your order with or without payment while you wait for us to send you a shipping quote.

There is a method to save your order at checkout without committing any funds.
You can use the 'Payment by Transfer' option while we find a solution, e.g. if we need to quote you a special shipping price.

If we notice a possible mistake in your order, we will email you to check.

If you need something urgently in a remote part of the world, we will expedite it, but we will be honest about how long we think it will take to arrive.

We use DHL, UPS or FedEx for all our urgent air express deliveries because they have an excellent reputation for delivering the parcel on time.

We send orders to Europe daily with a choice of different shipping options.
We regularly send heavy pallets loaded with, e.g. Anchor chains, Anchors etc.

You can rely on Team Jimmy Green to do their best for you. We want you to buy again :-)

Tax

Vat is payable within the UK, except in the Channel Islands.
UK Vat is not payable on export orders.

Import Duties

UK Vat (20%) is deducted from our prices for export, but please note that any duties, taxes and related commissions charged by the importing customs authority are the customer's sole responsibility.

Export to the EU

UK Vat (20%) is deducted from our prices for export.

You will be required to pay VAT at the rate applicable in the country where you receive the parcel when it arrives.
VAT in the EU varies from country to country (19%-25%)

The UK has a tariff-free arrangement with the EU.
Export to the EU from the UK requires an EORI number - for Jimmy Green Marine; the number is EORI GB 979342765000
There should be no import duty to pay on deliveries to the EU where the country of origin is the UK or the EU.
Most of our products are sourced in the UK or from the EU.
However, there may be an import duty to pay for those manufactured outside the UK or the EU.
This varies according to the international commodity code for each product but is mainly around 2.5% to 3% for marine accessories.

N.B. Sarca Excel anchors are manufactured in Australia and should not attract any extra import duty.

Regardless of whether there is any duty to pay, there will be a Customs Clearance/Courier Administration Fee to pay on receipt of your parcel.
This varies from country to country, but the minimum going rate is around 15 euros, and it would appear that there is a sliding scale corresponding to the value of the parcel, although the rate is not transparent. There can also be an extra administration fee if the value of the order is over 1000 euros, although there is no warranted reason for this.

Our export invoices include all the necessary documentation for a trouble-free parcel delivery service to the EU:

Unfortunately, VAT will almost certainly be charged on the value of the shipping as well - this is beyond our control - the answer is certainly not to exclude the value of the shipping from the invoice because we have found that this can result in them basing their charge on their inflated estimate. It may be possible to ask for a breakdown of the total fee and challenge any part of it, but this may delay the release of your parcel.

N.B. Jimmy Green Marine is not responsible for any charges on receipt of the goods, regardless of whether those charges are expected.

The Jimmy Green Despatch Team completes all the extra documentation and administration to ensure that deliveries go as smoothly as possible.
We do not charge for this service.
We use DHL, UPS or FedEx for deliveries to the EU because they have demonstrated that their service is the most reliable.
We can use other couriers on request.

Export to Greece

The Greek customs clearance process from the UK can prove very troublesome.

Orders over 1000 euros to a private citizen are even more difficult, with many extra forms and administration to work through, sometimes without success.

Customers with a Greek business agent willing to fulfil the import obligation should be fine, especially if the invoice can show a valid EU VAT registration or EORI number.

Export to Italy

Customer orders over 1000 euros to a private citizen may also involve different forms and administration in some parts of Italy.

Customer Feedback

We welcome constructive feedback on your import experience so that we can better inform future customers.

Export Carriers

Export Priority Shipping

For export, the Express Courier option is treated as a priority.
Your order is naturally treated as urgent and promoted to the top of the queue.
This is particularly significant for splicing and rigging orders.

Royal AirMail, Economy and Heavy Freight are subject to regular despatch lead times.
Royal Airmail may take several weeks to arrive.

Jimmy Green Shipping Rates

Carriage costs are calculated in the basket by weight and worldwide destination.

Create an online account and add your delivery address to view all your shipping options.

Due to our large volume of parcels, we can offer multiple options at economical rates.

N.B. On rare occasions, the website shipping calculator may fall short of the real cost - this can happen if you order relatively light but bulky items via Express Courier because the parcel volume incurs a surcharge - in this event, we will contact you to work out a satisfactory solution.

Shipping Parameters - Quote Required

If the contents of your basket, combined with your delivery destination, result in our website being unable to generate a shipping price automatically, please select Quote Required.
You can either continue to pay for your order or email details of your basket, and we will send you a quote to finalise the order.

VAT Guide

Jimmy Green Marine Ltd VAT Number: GB 979 3427 65

All the prices on our website include VAT for delivery within the UK (excluding the Channel Islands)

If your delivery destination is outside the UK (including the Channel Islands):
You can add your items to the Basket, go to Checkout, and register your delivery destination details.
Our website automatically excludes UK VAT from export prices.

Delivery to a Bonded Freight Forwarder
We can deliver to a freight forwarder for consolidation into an onward export shipment. VAT is payable initially and refunded with proof of export from the forwarding service.

UK Yacht in Transit
We can supply you on your yacht at a bona fide Marina delivery address prefixed with 'Yacht in Transit' on request.
We will require proof of identity from the skipper and the official yacht registration, showing that the country of residence/registration is outside the UK.

N.B. VAT is payable on the order initially and will be refunded only when we receive documented proof of the yacht export.

Export Yacht in Transit
We can supply you on your yacht at a bona fide Marina delivery address prefixed with 'Yacht in Transit' on request.
We will require proof of identity from the skipper and, in some cases, the official yacht registration, showing that the country of residence/registration differs from the delivery country.
Goods are exported excluding UK VAT.
In theory, the receiver will not have to pay import duty or VAT because they are a foreign national on a foreign-registered yacht, not permanently based in that country.
The import process will vary according to the location/country - local rules/regulations may apply, customs officers may be uncooperative, and an administration fee or commission may be levied.
If import duty or VAT is charged, it should be possible to claim a reimbursement when the yacht departs, but this is not guaranteed.

Once your documentation is validated, we will clearly mark the parcel with the words 'Yacht in Transit' and include them on the invoice

N.B. Jimmy Green Marine is not responsible for any charges on receipt of the goods, regardless of whether those charges are expected.
