A Thimble is designed to take a hard, fixed-point load on the inside, bearing surface of the crown when a wire or fibre rope has been passed around the score and spliced tightly to the throat e.g. for attaching a shackle.
Add the thimbles to your basket and then order the rope required without any professional finish. You can then splice them together. Remember to allow enough length in your rope order to allow for the splicing.
The Jimmy Green Rigging Team will also splice any of the three types of thimble - Nylon, Galvanised and Stainless Steel - into the end of your selected rope – order the splice of your choice when custom building your rope product.
Galvanised and Stainless Steel Thimbles as an integral part of an eye splice are particularly effective at reducing chafe for mooring and anchoring applications.
Select Galvanised Thimbles for joining rope to galvanised chain with a galvanised shackle.
Select Stainless Steel Thimbles for joining rope to stainless steel chain with a stainless steel shackle.
Select Stainless Steel Thimbles for joining rope to a galvanised anchor or galvanised chain with a stainless steel shackle. You will need to check the end link of the chain on a regular basis but otherwise this will reduce the degree of brown rust staining. Stainless Steel in contact with Galvanised Steel Thimbles are also available for wire rope
Solid Thimbles are also available with a closed throat suitable for use for jib tacks and as low friction rings.
