LIROS Anchorplait Nylon is the optimum rope selection for a strop on a swinging mooring because, unlike 3 strand, the 8 strand octoplait construction will not cockle.

LIROS specify their manufacturer minimum break loads in Deka newtons = DaN DaN = Deka newtons 1 Deka newton DaN actually = 1.01971621297793 (approximately 1.02) kg 01058 / 01058JG - 1000 = 2600 daN 01058 / 01058JG - 1200 = 3400 daN 01058 / 01058JG - 1400 = 4500 daN 01058 / 01058JG - 1600 = 5900 daN 01058 / 01058JG - 1800 = 7200 daN 01058 / 01058JG - 2000 = 8200 daN 01058 - 2400 = 11800daN

The 8 strand construction (2 pairs left hand, 2 pairs right hand) gives a balanced performance and no twist under tension.
Anchorplait is the optimum solution for single moorings:
- The rope construction precludes the possibility of cockling (unravelling)
- The splice design is very secure and will not unravel
Use only Anchorplait for swinging moorings because the 8 strand construction will not cockle.
Cockling occurs when a fixed 3 strand construction warp is forced to rotate against the direction of the twisted lay, opening up the strands until they distort into 'ears' This will eventually be the case if a yacht continually swings around it's mooring 'the wrong way'.
You can sample this with a soft piece of small diameter 3 strand rope - Twist it tighter and and the rope construction tightens - Twist it the other way and the strands will soon deform and the rope will go completely out of shape, compromising the performance of the warp, with the distinct possibility of failure through rupture.
This may not look like it can happen in a large diameter strop. When a large diameter nylon warp is first introduced into contact with seawater and used in anger the fibres shrink, the lay of the rope tightens and the end result is a stiff rope akin to an iron bar that doesn't look like it could possibly unravel but it can in conditions where the force of the rotational twist in the unlaying direction is both strenuous and persistent.
Cockling cannot happen with Anchorplait - It doesn't matter which way the rope is twisted it only tightens the lay.
The 3 strand splice itself is also prone to eventually unravel if the set up issues are not addressed - once the rope has distorted as far as physically possible without rupture the rotational force may be transferred to the splice with disastrous consequences.
Plain white LIROS octoplait nylon article 01058 with only LIROS tracer yarns is also available - 16mm, 18mm, 20mm diameter
24mm, 28mm and 32mm are only available in Octoplait
Octoplait features the same Octoplait rope construction as Anchorplait Octoplait = Anchorplait without the easy splice marker yarns
