Jimmy Green Marine 10mm MF DAMS Grade 70 is sourced exclusively and directly from MF Catenificio Frigerio, a modern chain manufacturing plant in Italy.

MF Catenificio manufacturing is all carried out in their research, test, and ISO9001-attested production facility.
The whole state-of-the-art enterprise is located in Olginate, near Lecco, Lake Como, Italy.

MF Catenificio Frigerio Hallmark Stamping Assurance

Each batch of chain is subjected to a series of strict load traction, breaking and bending resistance examinationss which test the physical and mechanical characteristics under conditions of maximum stress, ensuring that every weld is 100% guaranteed.

DAMS stands for Downsizing Anchoring and Mooring System

MF DAMS Grade 70 Calibrated Anchor Chain

MF 10mm Grade 70 DIN766 or ISO4565 Calibrated Anchor Chain features EN ISO 461 Regulated Hot Dip Galvanising to a micron depth of  80 ± 10 µ. delivering excellent protection against corrosion.

Hot-dip galvanising anchor chain is a challenging process which involves immersing the chain in a molten zinc bath.

The molten zinc chemically reacts with the surface of the steel to create an iron-zinc alloy.

The result is a deep protective treatment to a minimum depth of 80 microns regulated to the EN ISO 461 standard.

MF Galvanising provides longlasting resistance to abrasion and corrosion.

MF Catenificio hot dip galvanising performance is further guaranteed by stringent application of their state of the art Salt-Spray testing treatment.

MF Catenificio Salt Spray Galvanisation Test

The MF Salt Spray Test, developed by the MF Laboratiory Team and introduced in 2023 scrutinises the effectiveness and durability of the galvanising treatment.

The MF testing laboratory conducts a stringent examination of each batch of chain, exposing it to a concentrated salt solution for 24/48 hour cycles.

Salt Spray Testing simulates the real environmental conditions to which the chain will be exposed during its service life.

The results are governed by the MF Catenificio Frigerio UNI EN ISO 9001 certified quality system.

MF DAMS Grade 70kg/mm squared Calibrated Anchor Chain

MF DAMS Grade 70 10mm DIN766/ISO4565 has a break load in excess of 13mm DIN766 Grade 40 chain
A 10mm Grade 70 anchor rode can, therefore, be approximately 50% longer than the 13mm Grade 40 equivalent without any increase in weight.
MF DAMS 10mm Grade 70 chain is a long-length, high-performance extended-cruising solution for yachts up to approximately 20 metres in length overall.
N.B. As a comparison, a 13mm Grade 40 chain is also generally suitable for yachts up to 20 metres in length overall.
However, it is advisable to take all the relevant information into account when determining whether 10mm Grade 70 will be suitable for yachts between 18 metres and 20 metres due to the reduction in the weight of the anchor rode and the exponential nature of yacht displacement as the length increases over 16 metres.

Jimmy Green Advisory on Determining the Correct Size of your Anchor Chain

These factors should be taken into account when deciding on your anchor chain size:

  • Displacement: Length ratio
  • Your cruising intentions
  • The anticipated anchorage conditions, e.g. depth, seabed holding characteristics, the length of fetch and degree of exposure to prevailing winds
  • The length and weight of the chain that will be deployed
  • The weight and design of the anchor

Your anchor rode is only as strong as the weakest link, so please ensure all your connectors and shackles are rated to the necessary break load.
The strength of 10mm Grade 70 means it is best considered an all-chain solution rather than a chain/rope combination.
18mm is the largest compatible diameter rope to splice into a 10mm DIN766 or 10mm ISO chain.
N.B. A minimum 24mm/28mm diameter nylon rope would be required in order for the chain and rope combination to be reasonably compatible in terms of strength.

Jimmy Green Advisory on Checking your Required Chain Calibration:

10mm Calibrated Anchor Chain is available in two different calibrations - ISO4565 (10 X 30) AND DIN766 (10 X 28)

It is essential to check the size and calibration of your gypsy/chain before you order

If you are unsure, we can help you to decide - we will take all reasonable steps to ensure you get the correct chain

The simplest way to check that you are buying the correct calibration is to measure your existing chain, providing that it fits correctly.

We measure ten links because, in practice, it is difficult to measure one link accurately enough.
The links should be laid out flat and pulled tight.
Measure from the outside edge to the outside edge.

How to determine the correct calibration
N.B. The measurement for an old chain may be a little longer than new due to a degree of wear and elongation in use

MF DAMS Grade 70 Calibrated Chain Specifications for 10mm DIN766 and ISO4565:

Maximum Pin Diameter MBL Weight per metre
13mm 110Kn c 2.35kg

Every link is tested to the proof load during the manufacturing process, ensuring that each weld has been completed successfully

1Kn Force = 101.972Kg Break Load

110Kn = approximately 11216kg

Maximum Pin Diameter refers to the largest pin which will fit comfortably in the end link of a 10mm calibrated chain.

Jimmy Green Quality Control and Accountability

Every length of chain is checked and labelled with the manufacturer, the date received and a corresponding batch number when it arrives.
The batch number is then recorded at the point of sale.
Every chain order is, therefore, traceable and accountable to the manufacturer's Test Certificate.
