The Ocean mooring compensator is unique. Most EPDM rubber compensators rely on elongation to provide damping on the mooring line. This results in a high cyclic stress load being produced that ultimately will lead to the compensator perishing.
The Ocean model utilises compression of a similar material to provide the dampening. with 2 loops reeved back to back, the bearing edges of the loops pull together to compress the rubber with ever increasing resistance. Stainless steel tubes and sturdy circular plates keep the loops tracking properly while simultaneously keeping the rubber in situ.
Jimmy Green Marine recommend splicing to produce loops rather than knots for greater strength retention and longevity. More information below.
