Marlin Spike

The Captain Currey Marlin Spike is manufactured from marine-grade stainless steel with a handy shackle key in the handle and supplied in a useful leather sheath.

Ideal for undoing tight shackles and splicing rope and wire.

For splicing, the marlin spike is inserted into a laid rope to lever open a strand to form a hole, allowing larger access into the lay.

Marlin spikes are very handy for untying knots that have tightened up under tension.

A very tight knot can be very difficult to undo without a spike.

Used with a marlinspike hitch, the spike can form a handle to comfortably produce more tension on a rope than by gripping with the hand alone.
