Jimmy Green 7mm MF Grade 40 EN ISO 461 Regulated Hot Dip Galvanised Calibrated Anchor Chain is sourced exclusively from MF Catenificio Frigerio.
MF Catenificio chain is manufactured, hot dip galvanised, hallmark stamped and proof tested in their modern research, test and production facility located near Lecco, Lake Como, Italy.
Grade 40 means a guaranteed tensile strenght of 40kg/mm2.
The proof load testing process ensures that each individual weld has been completed successfully.
MF Catenificio Frigerio Hallmark Stamping Assurance
Each batch of chain is subjected to a series of strict load traction, breaking and bending resistance examinationss which test the physical and mechanical characteristics under conditions of maximum stress, ensuring that every weld is 100% guaranteed.
MF 7mm DIN766 Grade 40 Calibrated Anchor Chain features EN ISO 461 Regulated Hot Dip Galvanising to a micron depth of 80 ± 10 µ. delivering excellent protection against corrosion.
Hot-dip galvanising anchor chain is a challenging process which involves immersing the chain in a molten zinc bath.
The molten zinc chemically reacts with the surface of the steel to create an iron-zinc alloy.
The result is a deep protective treatment to a minimum depth of 80 microns regulated to the EN ISO 461 standard.
MF Galvanising provides longlasting resistance to abrasion and corrosion.
MF Catenificio hot dip galvanising performance is further guaranteed by stringent application of their state of the art Salt-Spray testing treatment.
MF Catenificio Salt Spray Galvanisation Test
The MF Salt Spray Test, developed by the MF Laboratiory Team and introduced in 2023 scrutinises the effectiveness and durability of the galvanising treatment.
The MF testing laboratory conducts a stringent examination of each batch of chain, exposing it to a concentrated salt solution for 24/48 hour cycles.
Salt Spray Testing simulates the real environmental conditions to which the chain will be exposed during its service life.
The results are governed by the MF Catenificio Frigerio UNI EN ISO 9001 certified quality system.
7mm Grade 40 DIN766 Calibrated Anchor Chain is generally suitable for small yachts up to approximately 8 metres, length overall
Splicing and Break Load Compatibility: 7mm Grade 40 Anchor Chain is compatible with 12mm diameter nylon and polyester.
Factor in all these criteria when deciding a suitable anchor chain size for your yacht:
Displacement : Length ratio
Your cruising intentions
The anticipated anchorage conditions e.g. depth, seabed holding characteristics, the length of fetch and degree of exposure to prevailing winds
The length of chain that will be deployed and any extra scope provided by an anchor warp
The weight and design of anchor
Jimmy Green Weakest Link Advisory
Your anchor rode is only as strong as the weakest link so ensure that all your connectors and shackles are rated to the requisite break load
Jimmy Green Calibration Check Advisory: Your chain needs to match your windlass gypsy:
There is one main calibration for 7mm chain - DIN766
Beware - this chain will not fit a 7mm ISO 4565 gypsy
It is very important to check the size and calibration of your gypsy/chain before you order
If you are unsure we can help you to decide - we will take all reasonable steps to ensure you get the correct chain
The simplest way to check that you are buying the correct calibration is to take a measurement from your existing chain, providing of course that it fits correctly.
How to determine the correct calibration
We measure 10 links because, in practice, it is difficult to measure one link accurately enough.
The links should be laid out flat and pulled tight.
Measure from the outside edge to outside edge.
Compare your measurement with our stock:
Jimmy Green MF Grade 40 7mm DIN766 = approximately 227mm
N.B. The measurement for an old chain may be a little longer than new due to a degree of wear and elongation in use
7mm DIN766 pitch tolerance is Plus 0.4mm or Minus 0.2mm per link
7mm MF Grade 40 DIN766 Dimensions:
Chain Size | Outside Width | Pitch |
---|---|---|
7mm DIN766 | 23.8mm | 22mm |
7mm MF Grade 40 DIN766 Specification:
Maximum Pin Ø | Proof Load | MBL | Weight per metre |
---|---|---|---|
8mm | 16Kn | 30Kn | c 1.1kg |
1Kn Force = 101.972Kg Break Load
30Kn = approximately 3059kg
MBL = Manufacturer Break Load
Maximum Pin Ø (Diameter) refers to the largest pin which will fit comfortably in the end link of 7mm DIN766 chain
Select the largest possible galvanised shackle or anchor connectorby pin diameter to fit the chain
Jimmy Green Anchor Chain Quality Control and Accountability
Every length of chain is checked and labelled with the manufacturer, the date received and a corresponding batch number when it arrives.
The batch number is then recorded at the point of sale.
Every chain order is therefore traceable and accountable to the Manufacturer Test Certificate.
A copy of the corresponding MF Catenificio Test Certificate is available with your order on request.
MF chain manufacturing has Lloyds Register approval to the ultimate ISO 9001 quality standard:
MF LLOYDS REGISTER APPROVAL TO ISO 9001
